When the pandemic hit, SIA began running a program with local seniors at York West Active Living Centre, exploring the relationship between Shakespeare’s plays and their personal stories. We are excited to share our first piece inspired by this incredible program and as a City of Toronto Arts & Culture SPARK Project.

GOING SOLO: An Illustrated Lecture with Alon Nashman

Alon Nashman has developed and performed solo shows for 20 years, touring them nationally and internationally. This 2 hour lecture + Q&A will touch on writing/adapting, self-producing and touring solo shows, with the hope of inspiring participants to consider creating their own solo material.
With the support from the Pearson Connects fund, Shakespeare in Action produced a dramatic reading of Charles Dickens’ A CHRISTMAS CAROL in partnership with the Weston Silver Band, at the Artscape Weston Common’s Rockport Performance Hall December 2019 titled…A WESTON CHRISTMAS CAROL.
Shakespeare in Action produced our free inaugural outdoor Shakespeare in the Shell production in Weston’s Little Avenue Memorial Park. Over 1,100 residents attended our two week run of A Midsummer Night’s Dream in conjunction with our Spotlight Artist series, which engaged local artists to perform a 10-15 minute opening set for the show nightly.
This hour long performance brings four of Shakespeare’s best-loved plays –Romeo and Juliet, The Tempest, Macbeth and Twelfth Night – to life for children ages five to seventy-five! Featuring original sound, movement and physical comedy, the performance is the perfect introduction to Shakespeare for young audiences.
