Young Storytellers

Ages 4-7

Join us at the Artscape Weston Common studio to become a Young Storyteller today!

Through drama, language arts, movement and music this course is designed to introduce our youngsters to unique ways to express themselves creatively, explore character creation and storytelling.

During this 8 week program, participants will work with one of our professional Actor-Educators to explore a series of texts to create a final performance for friends and family to be presented in the Shakespeare in Action studio!

This year Shakespeare in Action features it’s returning Weston Young Theatre Makers Series which offers classes at our new Artscape Weston Common studio.

Times: Saturdays from 9:00 am – 10:00 am

Cost: $120 per child (8 weeks)

Week 1
Stories that say Hello: Our first class, a chance to say hello and meet each other.

Week 2
Stories that are Spooky: A Halloween themed class. Costumes are welcome!

Week 3
Stories about Autumn: A celebration of all things autumn. Stories about the changing leaves and season.

Week 4
Stories with Animals: A class dedicated to our favourite animals and the stories we can tell about them.

Week 5
Stories with Magic pt 1: By now we know that strytelling is magic but what are some stories with magic in them like Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Week 6
Stories with Magic pt 2: A continuation of Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Week 7
Stories about Winter: As it gets colder, a focus on stories in the snowy season.

Week 8
All the stories: A recap of the term and an informal showing of come of our favourite moments from the term.

Introducing your teacher!

Eliza Martin

Eliza Martin is a theatre artist, writer, arts educator, and child and youth counsellor (M.A. CYC). She has had the privilege of working with children and youth in a variety of roles for over a decade. Her work has spanned outdoor education, early childhood education, enhanced support education, community arts, child and youth mental health, and arts education. Outside of her work with Shakespeare in Action, Eliza has taught in classrooms as a guest artist, for Children’s Arts Theatre School, her own company Queen Bees Arts Education, and Purple Carrots Drama Studio, offering accessible art-based programming specialized in diverse neuro and physical abilities. On-stage Eliza works as a professional actor and award-winning solo performer, having written and performed three one-woman shows: O (2014, 2016, 2017) and Harvey & The Extraordinary (2017) and BLOOM (2019). Eliza is an alumna of the 2013 Hangar Theatre Lab Academy in Ithaca, New York, and a graduate of the Theatre and Drama Studies program at the University of Toronto and Sheridan College (Theatre Specialist, English Major). Eliza also holds a masters in Child and Youth Care from X University. Eliza’s first children’s novel Harvey and the Extraordinary, published by Annick Press, will hit bookshelves in November 2021. At present, Eliza works in child and youth mental health, and as a guest artist, leading creative workshops around the city.

Refund Policy and Cancellation:


Registrants may cancel their registration up to two weeks before the classes begin. Cancellation requests must be delivered in writing via email to education@shakespeareinaction.org. The fee will be refunded less a $25 administration fee (Please note, the PayPal processing fee is also non-refundable).


Cancellation requests within two weeks of the class start date, or after the classes have commenced are not eligible for refunds.


Shakespeare In Action reserves the right to cancel entire course due to low enrolment. In that case, all participants will be fully refunded.


As Shakespeare In Action employs professional working actors, we reserve the right engage substitute instructors when necessary.


In the event of inclement weather or another emergency, Shakespeare In Action will make all attempts to contact parents/guardians at least one hour prior to the beginning of the class in order to inform them of any change.

Covid-19 Safety Policy

The following protocols will be implemented to keep campers and staff safe during our Fall 2021 programming:

  • Each session is limited to a maximum of 12 Storytellers
  • All staff and students must properly wear approved masks at all times except when eating or drinking. Staff members will also wear face shields
  • Frequent hand-washing and sanitizing will be enforced
  • Eating and drinking must be socially distanced
